Ideation

Fabric scraps make up a significant portion of the clothing in landfills. Most sewing patterns used in fast fashion companies require cutting off scraps that are unusable. This design was visually inspired by a traditional zero-waste garment, a sari. This can be seen in the pleats incorporated into the front of the robe. This base sewing pattern could be used as a coat in the winter using any fabric type.

Process

  • Created a sewing pattern for a robe without any fabric scraps.

  • Created a paper mockup.

  • Cut it from cotton fabric and pinned it to the mannequin.

  • Created frontal pleat design from extra fabric and added it.

  • Completed sewing and final touches and presented the zero waste pattern.
